Thoughts and description
The artists I brought together were Filippo Marinetti and Jenny Holzer. The underlying scenario was the question: “What would an encounter between these two artists look like?”
They share few similarities, and such a confrontation would certainly not be a peaceful one, as their political positions fundamentally differ. This conflict-driven encounter formed the core of my project.
Concept
I wanted to show this conflict by staging the project as if Marinetti were flipping through a book about Jenny Holzer and her work. Throughout the book, he adds his own notes and thoughts about her pieces. It is meant to feel as if he is trying to dismiss her messages and present his own opinion as the right one.
To make this interaction feel more intense, the notes were torn instead of carefully placed, suggesting that Marinetti is angry and wants to make his point quickly. To keep the focus on the statements of both artists, the entire project was designed in black and white.
